A Historic Moment: Two and a Half Years in the Making
Across more than four decades of their history, The Jesus and Mary Chain have never performed in Indonesia. For Black Sand Brewery, the band has long been a bucket list name; the kind of show that felt rare, ambitious, and worth chasing from the beginning.
The first conversations with the band began more than two and a half years ago, when Black Sand Brewery first opened the possibility of bringing The Jesus and Mary Chain to Indonesia. At the time, it was still only a hope. Over time, however, the schedule, the momentum, and the opportunity finally began to align.
Two and a half years later, the plan has finally found its moment.
What began as a Bali show with Black Sand Brewery has now grown into a two-city Indonesia moment through collaboration with Junks and noisewhore in Jakarta. The collaboration brings together three different forces with the same shared spirit: to make a historic show happen for alternative music listeners in Indonesia.
The Jesus and Mary Chains Indonesia debut will be their exclusive Southeast Asia appearance, with two key stops: Bali, through Black Sand Brewery as a brewery, creative home, and music space actively shaping its own music programming; and Jakarta, through collaboration with Junks and noisewhore, two independent music collectives previously behind Fazerdaze Live in Jakarta 2022 and Ichiko Aoba Live in Jakarta 2023.
For fans of shoegaze, post-punk, indie, and anyone who has ever fallen in love with the bands shaped by their influence, this is a chance that may not come around again.
