Opening Whispers in the Lacuna

Presented by ISA Art and Design in collaboration with The Bimasena, Whispers in the Lacuna investigates how absence is never an empty void, but a dynamic space filled with the persistent traces of memory, history, and displacement. Operating like a palimpsest, the featured practices spanning Alexander Sebastianus, Luh'De Gita, Etza Meisyara, Arahmaiani, Eko Nugroho, Jumaadi, Ardi Gunawan, Sillyndris, Yuki Nakayama, and Sinta Tantra demonstrate how discarded materials, altered landscapes, fleeting gestures, and evolving cultural traditions are continuously rewritten rather than erased. Through sculpture, painting, intermedia performance, and spatial installation, these artists reveal how fragments of what came before persist in the present, transforming silent gaps into resonant chambers where the past is reimagined through new forms and meanings.
