In celebration of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia dialogue relations, 'Everything We Inherit' exhibition curated by Jennifer Yang brings together the works of 11 artists Agus Wijaya, Emma Rani Hodges-Vanitlertpibon, Ida Lawrence, Janelle Low, Jenna Lee, Jumaadi, Leyla Stevens, Linda Sok, Melissa Nguyen, Sangeeta Sandrasegar, and Zico Albaiquni.
Spanning textiles, photography, sculpture, and painting, these artists engage with the complexities of cultural inheritance, migration, and identity, examining what is retained, transformed, or lost in the passage of time. Their diverse material practices reflect the nuanced and evolving relationship between Australia and Southeast Asiaan intersection of histories, memories, and lived experiences.
The exhibition explores themes of displacement, diasporic belonging, and the transnational ties that shape our understanding of heritage today. As the first formal exhibition in Indonesia for many of these artists, Everything We Inherit offers a unique opportunity to reflect on shared legacies and the reimagining of cultural identities.
