This is a hidden gem where you can see Orangutans only about an hour from Medan. These Orangutans have disabilities or ailments that means they would not be able to survive being released back into the wild, luckily they have been given this wonderful haven where they are safe and can enjoy their retirement. If you do not have the fitness or time to spend trekking to try to see the Orangutans in the wild then this is an excellent alternative where you can almost certainly get to see the Orangutans in semi-wild conditions while also supporting a very good cause. Suitable for most but it is a bit of a walk to get to the Islands so do make sure you wear sturdy shoes, as although the trek is only about 1/2 hour, it is steep and the conditions are hot but very worth the effort.
